Skip to main content1. What are Celonames?
Celonames are ENS‑compatible, fully onchain subnames on the Celo network. They let you register a human‑readable name for your address and use it as your onchain identity across apps. Celonames leverage the same ENS infrastructure, deployed on Celo (L2).
2. What are the Celonames registration fees?
Fees are length‑based and USD‑denominated, payable in CELO or stablecoins [USDC, USDT, cUSD]
| Letters | Annual Fee |
|---|
| 10+ | $1/year |
| 6-9 | $5/year |
| 5 | $50/year |
| 4 | $160/year |
| 3 | $400/year |
3. Do you offer discounts or free names?
Yes. You can register a Celo name for an annual fee of 1¢ with Self Verification, limited to one subname per wallet. See: Register with Self.
4. How long can I register a Celo Name for?
There is no limit to registration length, but there is a minimum of 1 year.
5. How do I register a Celo Name?
Use the Web app to claim, then set your resolver and records. Detailed steps: How to register. Verified users can also use: Register with Self.
6. How do I use my Celo Name in apps?
Any ENSIP‑10 compliant app can resolve your name to your address and read your records. Many wallets and apps display your primary name automatically once set.
Yes. Records (like avatar, text keys, and chain‑specific addresses) are stored via the resolver onchain. Only publish data you are comfortable making public and permanent.
8. How do I set my Celo Name as my primary name for my address? (Soon)
Will be available once ENS deploys the reverse registrar on the chain. See: Set L2 Primary Name.
9. How do I transfer my Celo Name to another address?
Use the official web app’s transfer flow to transfer ownership and update records cleanly. See: Transfer Guide.
10. Do Celonames work across chains?
Yes. As with ENS, names are interoperable across EVM chains if the app is ENSIP‑10 compliant. Address records are chain‑aware via coin types.
11. Can I link multiple addresses to my Celo Name?
ENS is multi-chain so you can set multiple addresses on different chains. A single primary address typically resolves for a given chain, but you can store additional addresses as records from any EVM chain, to even Bitcoin and Solana.
12. I’m a builder. How do I integrate Celonames in my app?
Celonames are ENS-compatible and work with any ENSIP-10 compliant library. Check the developer guides for contract addresses and GraphQL indexer to integrate Celonames into your app.
13. Where can I view contract addresses and source code?
See: Deployment Addresses and contracts repo: https://github.com/thenamespace/celo-names.
